Coral Passion is looking for a new team member, for one day a week on rotating shift pattern working Tuesday one week and Saturday the following week – Saturday hours, 9am to 3pm. Tuesday ideally 9am to 4pm but 9:30am to around 2:30pm is also possible. This is a small company, which operates with two people maximum.

There will be several weeks of training taking place on a Tuesday & Saturday for a few hours each shift, to ensure you like working at the business and to assess your suitability and capability.

The company has a vision to grow, make money and expertly care for all animals whilst providing great customer service. Our goal is to be the best marine livestock retailer in Europe.

You must love marine livestock and have a passion for the hobby that is reef-keeping.

This particular position will ideally require a proven marine aquarist with good interpersonal skills and a strong knowledge of running reef-systems either commercially or home aquariums.

Customers are king at Coral Passion and, the customer experience should always be positive wherever possible – and you will exude this ethos.

Working at Coral Passion:

  • Brisk productive work, working intelligently with our end goals always in mind
  • Taking expert care of all animals
  • A knowledge of various equipment used and be able to advise customers on prospective purchases
  • Cleaning algae from tanks
  • General tidying up and making sure the shop looks neat and presentable
  • A thirst to be better and positively react to feedback, having a willingness to improve
  • Various other duties as required to advance the business
  • Possess a ‘can do’ attitude and a natural drive to be busy, with an ability to foresee and prioritise your tasks for that day
  • Experience with reef-aquariums is almost essential, but I may consider applicants who come from a tropical/freshwater background. You must have a passion for maintaining water chemistry, caring for fish, corals and inverts and the various equipment used and either thoroughly understand reef keeping principals or be willing to learn.
  • Must be happy to make tea and coffee.

Remuneration will be slightly above minimum wage - this job is aimed at people who love the aquatic industry & want to gain experience and help out in a busy marine retailer. 25% staff discount is available on most products where possible (note this can’t always be done particularly on electrical goods). Staff discount is only available after 6 calendar months of service.

There may also be an opportunity to service some of our aquarium maintenance contracts that we hold; these are typically in offices or in luxury homes throughout Essex and London. A willingness to travel within these regions in your own vehicle would be advantageous. Fuel allowance and payments for this to be discussed.

A highly desirable attribute is being able to come in each day & feed the animals and perform checks whilst I am away on holiday for a week or two.

Please research Coral Passion before approaching. For applicants who get shortlisted, we will need at least two references from previous/current employers, before we can consider you for work.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send your CV and covering letter into the business via email.

Everyone employed at Coral Passion is on a self employed basis. You will be responsible for paying your own tax. You will be under no obligation to accept work and you are free to work on other contracts. Your wages can be paid in either cash or bank transfer after each shift.
